The purpose of the AT LAST program is to partner with the ATLAS Program, a public-school intervention program providing resources for legitimately homeless children and families in transition within the school system, and assist their efforts to help transitional students and families find short-term and long-term care and support for education and life sustainability. The AT LAST HOPE vision is to be a “hand up” to children and families within the ATLAS program by providing food to hunger families.
Subtitle VII-B of The McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act authorizes the federal Education for Homeless Children and Youth (EHCY) Program and is the primary piece of federal legislation related to the education of children and youth experiencing homelessness. It was reauthorized in December 2015 by Title IX, Part A, of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
The AT LAST HOPE FunCare Bag program consists of providing a fun and care package to families in transition. This fun care bag (backpack) includes non-pe food, toys and games, hygiene items and more to provide for food throughout the week as well as help balance the family stress. In addition, our efforts are to support school Summer Feeding programs with additional resources during the summer months to help feed families.
The FunCare Bags are prepared by our volunteers and dropped off at each school in order for School Counselors to distribute them to the students. Here's a look at at FunCare Bag drop at Laverne Middle School.
The AT LAST HOPE Fest is designed to be an event filled with care, fun and hope to families of the ATLAS program. During this fest we will provide hot food, entertainment, community resources, job opportunities and more in a safe and wholesome environment (local school or community center) to the ATLAS designated familie
